Caption: 1982. Last night I looked across the alley and saw your light on, but you weren't answering your tin can. I didn't know you called me. Maybe the string wasn't tight enough to receive the call. But I was busy anyway. I was writing to my pen pal. Chuck's been having trouble working up the courage to talk to some little red-haired girl. He was even too timid to try my suggested "pull her hair" ice-breaker. That's my best move. I don't know why you men think us women like that. Try my can again tonight, I'll try to get better reception.

Caption: Your suggestion didn't work, Susan. Thinking about baseball should have worked. Did you do it right? What do you mean? Did you think of the boring, repetitive parts? I tried. I thought about the batter swinging the bat around in the on-deck circle … the runners going around and around the diamond ... the batters swinging and almost always missing ... but instead of distracting me, it relaxed me. It wasn't boring, Susan. It was rhythmic. Baseball is a Zen-like experience that puts you into a trance. It frees the mind and makes it easier ... not harder ... for your mind to wander where you don't want it to go ... so it didn't stop me from wondering who's going to run for president in 2020. Ok, plan B: Try doing long division in your head.

Caption: I'm tired of people saying Marco Rubio sounds like a robot. Since when has repeating oneself over and over again been robotic? He doesn't sound anything like a robot. Robots say "I'll be back" in a thick Austrian accent. Or they say "I suggest a new strategy, Artoo: Let the Wookiee win." Or they say "Danger, Will Robinson!" Don't worry, people won't be talking about Rubio for much longer.

Profile: … hand-in-hand with a beluga whale. Which is odd for a few reasons. Date-a-Chick.com. Error: Excessive honesty detected. Please try again.

Caption: Have you called your mom every day this week like I suggested? Yes. But I really think I'm doing her a disservice. When you do something every single day, it's not special anymore. It's a chore. I'm pretty sure I heard her sigh last time she answered. Tell me you're not about to say you're ... I'd be doing her a favor if I called her only once or twice a week.

Caption: I called my ex-wife and told her I forgive her for leaving me for Guillermo Cabonabong. Wow. After five years? Something told me it was time to forgive. Well, I told you back then, holding onto resentment is only going to hurt you. I'm glad my advice finally sunk in. It's not that, doc. Yesterday, Facebook suggested I add Guillermo Cabonabong as a friend. I quit. When even Facebook says it's time to move on, it's time to move on.

Caption: If you want to make sure no one can identify it, I suggest using a chain saw, that you can get from Home Depot. Pardon me, I couldn’t help overhearing. "That" is a restrictive pronoun. You're basically saying the ONLY place she could get a chain saw is Home Depot. You should say, "which," not "that." Which way would you like to die? Perfect!

Caption: … And in other news, the President's golf match with Republican Congressional leaders ended in acrimony. One anonymous member filibustered the President's choice of club and ball. The President responded by issuing an executive order allowing the use of a putter. Republican leaders suggested the match could continue if Obamacare is repealed.

Caption: Do you ever wonder why so many religious people fear science, Rosencrantz? Not really. It's because they don’t realize that science has proven God exists. Quantum theory suggests that reality can only exist when it's being observed. And since many hasn't been here forever ... ... WHO observed things before we got here? Roaches.

Caption: So you went to talk to your evil ex, Roxanne, about your custody battle? Without your lawyer? Y'know, it's interesting: just adding a question mark to the end a sentence can make someone feel really stupid. You think?

Caption: The Law Guy. hy can't I just go talk to Roxanne and sort out this whole custody mess like two grown adults. 'Cause as your lawyer, I'm telling you it's a bad idea. Closing arguments are tonight. I can win this. Don't mess it up. I'm a writer, Billy. I know a little about what moves people. I can talk some sense into her. I'll put this in terms a writer will understand ... THIS CONVERSATION IS FORESHADOWING! What's the worst that can happen?

Caption: Facebook. Messages. From Sasha Mitchell. I've thought about you from time to time, these past 16 years, Lemont. I've wondered if you're happy. How's your life going? Court will come to order … the case of "Impoverished Black Father Who Has No Chance to Win Custody From the Filthy-rich White Mother of his Child" can ... Um ... seriously? Mr. Brown, is this really how your lawyer filed your case? My life's going fine. Might I suggest you represent yourself?

Caption: Dear God, nurse, it's another one! This is a unique case, Doctor. Why? Another anti-Obama protester has collapsed under the weight of all his different metaphors. Yes Doctor, but observe … A tea bag, protesting the bank bailouts. A birth certificate, suggesting Obama's not a citizen. A scythe, protesting the public health care option. The usual. Look closer, Doctor. My word, is that ... an AFRO? I'm Black! That's not usually a symptom of this disease.

Caption: You're right, Mr. Brown. We sent you a misleading ad suggesting that if you'd consolidate all your debt onto our card, that would help lead to good credit. Then when your other creditors saw the large balance you put on our card, they thought you were a credit risk and lowered your credit limits. ... And since that was OUR FAULT, it's wrong for us to lower your credit limit just because other creditors lowered their limits. One second .. Ok, I've restored your high credit limit. Please accept our apologies. Wow, I didn't expect y-- Hey, Big L ... Here's all the money you ever loaned me since we was kids. With interest. NOOOOOOO!!!!

Caption: When I hear Al Gore talk about climate change, I get angry. But when I hear Pat Robertson say the same things, I don't get angry. I see. It's quite common, really. Man is a tribal species. Our brains divide the world into "us" and "them." If someone from our own tribe suggests an idea or action, we're inclined to accept it. But if someone from an outside tribe suggests the same thing, we're inclined to reject it. Does it make sense? Depends. Are you a Liberal or Conservative?

And you've come to me, Mr. Thomas Nast. Cartoonist for Harper's Weekly. I am honored, sir. Bad time to ask if he knows Mark Twain.
