Caption: Everyone goes through this at one time or another, Lemont. It's important not to worry about what other people think of you, if you know you're doing the right thing. It's important to get to a place of self-confidence, self-assurance, peace. Whatever. I still think your new Get your 10 psychosis treated free punchcards make you look tacky. And yet I'm at peace with that.

I'm starting to feel like people who don’t really know me know me better than people who know me well. Does that make sense? Mind if I write a paper about you? Ph.D. (This cartoon was originally published on 2013-05-24).

Caption: Would I be a bad father if I just went to sleep and let Lionel jump on his bed all night long? Dr. Noodle. Of course not. There's a slight chance that would lead to a cycle of permissiveness … … And that he'll grow up spoiled and feeling entitled, to the point where he'll become a narcissist and turn to a life of crime. Just kidding. Maybe. Can I see your credentials again? Ph.D. (This cartoon was originally published on 2013-05-23).

Caption: What's on your Netflix playlist says everything about you. Wait … what's on your Amazon wish list says everything about you. On the other hand, maybe what's in your iTunes playlist says everything about you. I bed Sigmund Freud's iTunes playlust would've been full of smutty songs. "Playlist." What'd I say?

Caption: I want you to follow these exercises to the letter … M.A. Find pictures of you as a baby. Tape them all over your apartment. Whenever you see one of them, stop and tell the picture "You are a special, unique person." Tell the picture "I love you." Do exactly as I just said, until I tell you you can stop. That's how I can learn to take charge of my life? Just do it.

Caption: I always wanted a circle of friends like the ones I saw on TV. I wanted friends who would stick by me through all my failed romances … Like in "Sex and the City." … Friends who would care enough about me to argue with me when I'm wrong, like in "A Different World." ... Friends who would do silly dances to make me lighten up, like in "What's Happening!!" ... Friends who would fight every battle for me, like Fonzie did for Richie Cunningham. WHY CAN'T I FIND FRIENDS LIKE THOSE?! Maybe because you've spent all your time watching TV. FRASIER CRANE never would've said that.

Caption: I think you're only scratching the surface. Dr. Noodle. You're not stressed about being broke. You're stressed because you fear what that says about you. M.A. You fear it means you're irresponsible. Worthless. A useless mole on the booty of mankind. Hey, I told you I'll pay you next Tuesday. Get off my case. You're defensive. That's a sign of a deeper fear ...

Caption: I'm wondering of you can hypnotize me into eating less. Dr. Noodle. That would just be treating a symptom. We need to treat the ROOT CAUSE. You're overeating to comfort yourself, because something in your life is causing anxiety. Well … I HAVE been stressing about money lately. Maybe I should drop whatever's not absolutely necessary. M.A. Like cable. Or life insurance. Or therapy. Look into the watch ...

Just once I wish you would tell me what something means. It means you can afford to pay your overdue therapy bill. It's not your place to tell me what it means. PhD.

Caption: You can't decide you're recovered, Lemont. Yes I can. Dr. Noodle. Psychological wounds are every bit as real as physical ones. What if you had a tumor? What do you mean? Would you tell your surgeon "no need to cut it out. I'll remove it myself with a spork"? Best. Utensil. Ever. Same time next week?

Caption: Lemont, why don't you tell her exactly what you want? I want her to stop scaring me spitless with all her talk about bed bugs and asteroids and flesh-eating viruses. How do you feel about what Lemont just said? What if I only scare him twice a week. THIS IS NOT A NEGOTIATION!!! Ok, three times a week, but I feel like I'm compromising more than he is. (this cartoon was originally published in 2010).

Caption: She's crazy! She's been scaring me spitless for YEARS. Have not. Very few SCIENTISTS BELIEVE AIDS MAY or may not HAVE MUTATED INTO AN AIRBORNE VIRUS!!! HOLDing YOUR BREATH is not necessary! You forgave me for that! You can't keep throwing that in my face! And what was all that mess about asteroids blowing up the Earth? I thought we moved past that. (This cartoon was originally published in 2010).

Scratch scratch scr-- SCRATCHING YOUR NOSE CAN LEAD TO CATCHING THE FLESH-EATING VIRUS!!! Fascinating. ... What? You see what I'm working with here?! (This cartoon was originally published in 2010).

Caption: Why do I even are whether Rihanna wants to take Chris Brown back? Why would I care about some rich, privileged celebrity? The "celebrity" is a hybrid species. The person is only a small part. The larger part is the reflection of us we see in them. Of course we care ... Their brilliance makes us proud of us. Their failures make us ashamed of ourselves. Celebrities don't exist in a vacuum. Celebrities don't even touch vacuums. PhD.

Caption: twitter. Sassynic: Jumping jacks … have those ever been considered a real exercise? They seem so … fake to me. They're the breast implants of exercises. Candorville: If a caveman saw all the glowing, blinking devices in my room, he'd flip out. I'd hate 2 see what he'd do if he saw my bills for all of them. I don't understand, what's this have to do with you deciding you no longer need counseling? I'm cured! All the voices in my head have been crowded out by all the voices in my phone. (Published originally on 2010-02-08.)

Caption: Last month, I watched NASA launch the very last space shuttle mission, ever. It's been a whole month and I haven't heard anyone even talk about it. I remember watching the first shuttle launch, when I was six. It pre-empted Romper room. That's how big a deal it was. We don't dream big as a country anymore. We don't believe we can rebuild our roads, let alone get to Mars. I see ... Dreaming is over. This still doesn't explain why you're stuck on a girl who treats you badly. When you deserve so much more. If the country doesn't dream big, why should I?

Caption: My brother's buying a house. I didn't know that was really possible. We never owned anything growing up. We couldn't afford books, so we'd go to the library. We couldn’t afford a car so we'd take the bus ... We come from a long line of renters. I'd convinced myself it had to be that way. After all we're all only renting our time on this earth anyway. Ownership is a delusion. The only thing we can really own is our soul. I see. You're wondering if you can conquer the limits you've placed on yourself, like your brother did. I'm wondering if my brother will rent me his basement cheap.
