Caption: Ask Sadie. Dear Sadie, I'm going on a raw food diet. What kind of diet do you recommend? You rock my world, girl! - John in Portland, Oregon. That's the grossest thing I've ever heard. How so? He's going to eat naked?! Maybe if he has a body like mine it would be okay, but ... stop. That's not what he means by raw. Explain, nerdy sidekick. According to Wikipedia, it's mostly a vegan diet. Wikipedia? Crowd-sourced virtual encyclopedia. I don't understand anything being said today!! Rock my world is good or bad? Opportunity here to really ruin her day. Ask Sadie (and maybe get answers) at asksadieshow@gmail.com.

Caption: Truth be told, I'm kind of bummed out by my latest research. Do tell, sir. The other guys at the café all upgrade their devices on a regular cycle. Their cycles are synched up. Not mine. I guess when you're a sensitive guy you don't focus on materian objects. And you're broke. Maybe I can seduce some dingy tart into buying me a new phone. Sensitive to the core.

Caption: Are you saying I have no control over when I upgrade my devices? In effect. You've got some kind of subconscious internal clock that drives you to regularly buy a new phone, or TV, or video game console. And there's nothing I can do about it? So it would seem. How freeing. Does this revelation come with a new credit line? Go away.

Caption: Sir, your latest research troubles me. It['s irrefutable. You and Armstrong regularly upgrade your devices at precisely the same time of the month. Your upgrade cycles are synchronized. Nonsense. That suggests I have no control over when I upgrade. I'm not some drone who upgrades without even thinking about ... uh oh. You were saying, drone?

Caption: Kindly readers, scientific literature has long established that women who spend a lot of time together synchronize their hormonal cycles. I believe I have discovered an analogous phenomenon in men. They too synchronize their cycles. What cycles? Their upgrade cycles! Look carefully, if you will, at the way men who like or work in close quarters seem to develop similar cycles for upgrading phones, televisions and other gadgets. I got a new phone! I got a new butter churn! He's right! Aaaahhh!!!

Caption: Rudy, am I correct that you and Armstrong each just upgraded your laptops? Yeah, so? And last month, if I'm not mistaken, you and Armstrong each upgraded your phones. Again, so? Don't you see what's happened to you and Armstrong? You've synchronized your cycles. What? Your upgrade cycles! They're in sync! What in the world are you talking about? What in the world indeed?!

Caption: Check out this brilliant photo. Not interested. I'll blow it up. It's high-concept. It's me and five friends on a hike. One friend took a picture of another. Then a third friend took a picture of those two, and so on. It's totally meta! Freeze! What? Zoom in on the side. What is that? It's Bigfoot! You were so consumed with your gadgets you missed Sasquatch?! Big deal. It's not like we had an extra camera for him. The proverbial big picture is very, very frightening.

Caption: Now that you've seen the Fad Herald is a regular dude and not a hipster, will you stop following everything he says? You're not answering. Why bother answering you, heathen? Heathen? He's the Fad Herald. He judges us, not the other way around. Like Sarah Palin? When facts fail you, embrace faith. It never goes out of style.

Can't go in public without being recognized. Can't live up to my rep, see. The herald's stuck in the past?!

Caption: Announcing the Fad Herald. I am not worthy. Coffee. Black. Straight coffee. Are fancy espresso drinks out? Is that your pronouncement? No pronouncement. My hours have been cut back. I'm here on my own time. Furloughs are in?! You're reading too much into this. Interpretations are out.

Caption: It's the Fad Herald. On a weekday? I know, he usually visits on Sundays to make his pronouncements of what's trendy and what's out. Nice. Terrific way of summing up a character in this feature who, despite appearing with some regularity, some readers might not recognize. But we digress. Proceeding ... what mystery could explain his appearance during the week?

No, they assured me that my call is very important to them and someone will be right with me. Yeah, and I assured you last spring that I'd clean up the garage, but you're still parking in the driveway.
