Caption: Your latest article was a little confusing, Lemont. What's confusing about my having solved Fermi's paradox? I've single-handedly explained how the universe could be filled with civilization, even though we've seen no evidence them. Did you know there's a possibility our universe exists within a black hole? ... and every black hole in our universe may contain an entire universe of its own? I've heard that. And did you know that people ultimately just can't stand those who are different from them? Don't you see, Susan? There is no paradox. When a civilization advances far enough, it doesn't fly to other stars. It thinks much bigger. It creates a black hole and vanishes into it so it can have a whole universe to itself. They could shape it and write its natural laws however they want. The Berniezoidians could have a whole universe full of single-payer healthcare, ... and the Trumpmagans could have a whole universe full of no undocumented immigrants. Oh. I was just confused about the part where you wrote "The Trumpmagans still insist Mexico will pay for the event horizon."

Caption: My cousin Mafalda just got deported. Seriously? Why? What happened? She went to renew her work visa, and they told her to forget it. Didn't even give her a reason. But she runs a health clinic. What about all her patients? What about me? I was about to go in and get a checkup. What? You were not. Now I'll have to wait till she goes back to Mexico, files and appeal, comes back and restarts her clinic. Dios mio. Stop coming up with excuses not to go to the doctor.

Caption: We've invaded dozens of sovereign nations. Everywhere from Mexico to Cuba to Iraq. So it IS kinda strange that we're getting so bent out of shape about Russia doing the same thing. No it ain't. Anytime a thug wanna feel like he a good person, all he have to do is condemn some other thug. Wasn't that your thesis statement in kindergarten? It's still relevant.

Caption: Today is my grandpa's 94th birthday. I went shopping for a gift. Then I remembered Dr. Noodle. A few years ago, he tried teaching me to play dominoes. We'd play with his beat up, weathered dominoes that looked older than my dad Later, when I was vacationing in Mexico, I bought him a new set of dominoes, hand-carved from obsidian, with jade inlays. I carried it through the jungle for weeks, gave it to him for his 90th birthday. A week later he gave it to the mailman. Old people have old things because of sentimental value. This year I'm getting him oatmeal.

Caption: Let me get this straight: You wrote a story about you and me getting kidnapped in Mexico, infiltrating a drug cartel run by monsters, and causing the end of the world. And you want me to go to "Candorville dot com" backslash "2009," backslash "11," backslash "09," backslash "elevation," so I can read all about it because now you think it all really happened. Is that correct? candorville.com/2009/11/09/elevation. No, it's not. It's not. You said "backslash," when those are clearly "forward slashes." Fascinating. (Published originally on April 29, 2011).

China's a land of executions, and so on Why can't we see our political differences the same way we see a difference over pizza toppings? Ok, ok, I'm sorry I yelled at you for ordering anchovies. Unfortunately, one side effect is massive weight gain. Oh no! Lem-lem's already fat enough! As it is, I don't know how I'll ever squeeze his blubber into the wedding tux Daddy bought him! Caption: My shrink says this is all just a figment of my imagination. Mexico, the wolves, the demons You He's right, senor. Say what? Everything you and I know is a figment of our imagination. The true universe is a chaotic jumble of quarks, protons and electrons, funneled through our senses into our brains, where our imagination orders it all into the touch of a loved one, the buzz of a bee ... You're pretty deep for a hobo. ... The words of a jerk.

Powerless against the dangers that encircled your hopeless world. You snapped. Your brain constructed an elaborate fantasy to process it all. You're imagining you're lost in Mexico, surrounded by wolves and demons. I"M YOUR LIFELINE, LEMONT! WAKE UP! WAKE UP AND HEAL! Sorry, can you repeat all that? I was twittering.

Caption: You're a writer. I'll use terms you'll understand to prove you're hallucinating all this. Ever heard of the concept of the "Hero's Journey"? Of course. The protagonist gets thrust into a hopeless abyss of danger against his will, but a wise dude gives him the tools to overcome his challenges. He finds peace, obtains his goals, and returns home a hero. See. You've constructed a hero's journey in your head for yourself. The hopeless abyss: you're stuck in Mexico. You've got the wise guide ... Don't flatter yourself.

Caption: What's more likely, Lemont? That you had a psychotic break and you're lying on a gurney in Sunnyville sanitarium, hallucinating? Or that you and your therapist are stuck in Mexico, where we were kidnapped, chased by wolves, had tea with the most brutal drug cartel boss in Juarez ... ... And now you're going to interview a demon called La Llorona who steals the souls of the city's children? You're right. That's absurd. My HMO would NEVER cover hallucinations.
