Caption: Randy, if you could be ANY superhero, which one would you be? I'd be Randy-Man. He came to earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. He's slower than a speeding bullet, because he takes his time in all things. He can change the course of a lady's evening with a single smile. I don't think The Avengers would have much use for Randy-Man.

Caption: Boss, what's the best way to break up with someone without hurting her feelings? Hush money. What? Offer the dumpee a cashier's check for $5,000 on the condition she refrains from having hurt feelings. If she just can't do that, then you should be compassionate and offer her a $1,000 check as long as she agrees not to burden you with her hurt feelings. Very bad man. Compassion is an essential component of any severance package.

Caption: Good morning, Rudy. I suppose you're wondering why I've summoned you. I like licorice. It's time for your annual performance review. In short, you've done very well this year. Thank you, boss. You're friendly, punctual, and well-groomed. You follow direction acceptably, you've shown initiative, and you brew a fine cup of coffee. Those are the pluses. There's only one negative, really. Only 1.3 percent of your social media posts and comments have been about me or the cafe, and of those only 94% have been positive. An overwhelming 6% have been neutral. The only thing keeping me from firing you is, 0% have been negative. Just thought of a negative. I'm also not thrilled about that cute kitten you re-tweeted in February. I'm more of a piranha man.

Caption: Man-to-man talk, Randy. Let's do this. What's wrong with you, man? What do you mean? Every single day, guys ask you for advice about women, work, sports … haven't you ever even heard of the law of supply and demand? I'd be glad to steer the downtrodden and the forlorn your way for a mere 82% of the man-to-man-talk fee. HOJ.

Caption: Can I ask you something man-to-man? Shoot. Let's say you've always wanted to make someone a mixtape to show them how much you care about them. What's the best order? Do you start with songs about how rich you are before moving on to the songs about love? Or vice versa? What order would best simulate sincerity? Very bad man.

Caption: Harrison Ford, no question. Tom Selleck, without a doubt. I don't care if they did offer Selleck the role first, Ford was a much better "Indiana Jones." Ford was ok, but his character was less than manly. What are you talking about? That's ridiculous! Harrison Ford was the definition of eighties manliness! You're telling me the "definition of eighties manliness" could run around the world for weeks and months at a time ... and never once grow anything more than a little stubble? I think maybe you're a little biased about the whole "big giant mustache" issue. Likewise, my patchy little stubbly friend. On matters of great import, even the philosophers must sometimes agree to disagree. STOP!!! All the greatest philosophers had big mustaches, you know.

Caption: I'm not sure the advice you gave me about Andrea Wheaton is working, Mr. Armstrong. Details. I asked her to form a romantic partnership, just like you said, where she'd be a 50% sharehoarder. ShareHOLDer. She didn't bite? She threw the prospectus in the trash. If a girl throws your prospectus in the trash, she's not the girl for you.

Caption: You called, Boss? Did you hear about that guy who bought a 62-year-old live-saving drug and then hiked the price 5000% from $23.50 a pill to $750 a pill? It's outrageous! In this country you can get away with basically extorting sick and dying people, just to make a few more bucks. People's lives aren't considered anywhere near as important as one man's greed. What part outrages you? That you didn't think of it first? Get me some dirt on whoever owns penicillin.

Caption: Today's alpha-lesson is called "man-talk, woman-talk, other-talk." Whatever your gender, it's important to be seen huddling with members of the same gender. Others of that same gender who witness your huddle automatically see you as port of the local branch of you gender's ruling council. The tribal huddle. Learn it. Use it.

Caption: Can I ask you a question, man-to-man? Sure, little buddy. What do "man-to-man talks" usually consist of? What? I've never really had one, I don't think. What usually goes into them? Sports? Shaving? Carburetors? A little of this, a little of that. There's a proper ratio, of course. I'm not good at math.

Caption: Rudy, I think you're ready for more responsibilities. You mean you want me to handle our suppliers? You want me to go to Colombia and oversee the coffee bean supply chain? You want to give me an expense account? I want you to scope out our patrons and alert me if any of them seem to be good fits for me romantically. But don't let them know you're running credit and background checks on them. It could ruin the mood. Very bad man.

Caption: Open mike night presents Sadie Cohen. Summer's almost over … baseball season's nearly done. The time is growing short to see the man-meat hit home runs. Their rippling biceps swinging wooden bats hard through the air … their quadriceps pump, unbridled, while I sit there and stare. And when they slide into home plate, there's always a slim chance ... that if they slid in wrong, they're a-gonna split their pants! I don't think I'll ever be able to un-hear that.

Caption: Boss, part of the ceiling just caved in. Excellent. Raise all prices by ten percent right away, minion. Studies show patrons are willing to pay a premium to eat in a café that has a patio. Oh, I almost forgot. Did anyone get hurt? Very bad man.

Caption: You must be excited about Bernie Sanders, Mort. He's ok, I guess. Wait … is that jealousy I hear? Why would I be jealous of a man who says exactly what I've been saying all my life … and who's drawn crowds totaling 100,000 even though people go out of their way to ignore what I have to say? Jealousy is an ugly emotion. I was Bernie Sandersing when Bernie Sanders was still in diapers.

Caption: What's the best way to groom a neck-beard? Um … I'm … why on earth would you … HOJ. The huge hipster lumberjack beard craze is two years old. It'll end soon, and then every hipster will be looking for the next big trend to follow. I could get in on the ground floor of it this time if I'm the first to groom it well and Instagram it. With the right 'do, my neck beard can go viral. That sentence makes me very uncomfortable.

Caption: Armstrong, why did you fire me? I need to know. Gross incompetence. You used the café's line of credit to buy and ad on the "Ask Sadie" show. Business plummeted by 100% the very next day. We were closed the very next day. I could hire you back, but it would mean a new contract and less pay. Very bad man. Your new contract requires you to provide me with health insurance.

Caption: Armstrong fired me. I kind of wish I knew why. Who cares why? A real alpha doesn't let himself get fired, little buddy. What you should've done was fire your boss before he had a chance to fire you. That way, thoughts of everything he'd lose would flood his brain and there's a 48.7% chance he'd actually beg you to stay. Isn't that the same number from your book "From Dump-ee to Beg-ee"? Work, romance ... it doesn't matter. All the relationships are the same.

Caption: Rudy, we're going to have to cut expenses. We already did that, boss. I don't think you're clear on the concept, minion. It's a way of life. Did you read one book and then never read again? Did you listen to one song and then never listen to another again? Did you kiss someone once and then never again? Cutting expenses isn't something you do just once. A good businessman cuts expenses constantly. Whether he needs to or not. You trim the fat. When you run out of fat, you trim the nerves and the muscle. When you run out of that, you start slicing every last molecule of bone you can. The goal is to see if you can maximize your profits while running on pure marrow. That, my minion, is the holy grail. I call it The Tao of Armstrong. Armstrong Maynard. If I can ever figure out how to cut the marrow, I will have touched the face of god. Everyone has their own religion.

Caption: Today's alpha-lesson is called "Always Jujutsu the Suspense." If someone says "I've got a great idea" and then pauses to create suspense, that's a power-move. They want you to beg them to continue. The alpha counter-move in this case is simple. Use the suspense-monger's suspense against them: say absolutely nothing.* *This move should never, ever be applied in the boudoir.

Caption: Does your soy latte use soybeans grown in the US or in East Asia? Why do you ask? Over 90% of American soybeans are genetically modified and sprayed with herbicide. They may cause hormonal changes, especially in men. Loss of sexual desire, development of feminine-looking breasts ... I figure lattes are cheaper than hormone replacement therapy. The economy's still not great.
