Caption: Given our collective short attention span, you now have less than 20 seconds to pick up a chick. After that, you've lost her to a cellphone call, incoming email, Twitter and so forth. The key is to keep your approach crisp, witty, and so irresistible that the incoming tweet can actually wait. Does everyone have that? Ooh, does she have an iPhone? Hold on, I'm getting a call.

Caption: You've modified your unified theory of picking up chicks? The first big change in 10 years. I had to account for a key change in how people relate. They have incredibly short attention spans. Under my old theory, you used to have 45 seconds to get a chick's attention. Now you have less than 20. You lost me two sentences ago. I'm tweeting. The Love Doctor rests his case.

Caption: … charge extra for people to wear shoes, create a tax on spilled drinks, double-charge for napkins. Boring, you're not a government entity, it's been done. I give up. I concede. I've got nothing. Maybe I don't belong as a businessman. Maybe I should just turn over the keys to the place to the customers ... They can make their own drinks and become experts and run their own coffee houses. Or I could charge them for making their own drinks and call this a training ground! Witness the return of a muse.

Caption: Over the last decade we've chronicled modern life through the joys and tribulations of the Rudy Park gang. They've lent us a window into the key issues of the day, from politics to nutrition to the way our whole world is shaped by HBO's programming choices. But we've been remiss. Somehow, in all this time, we've never had a storyline involving a secret scandalous videotape of a major character's illicit past. This week, we humbly make amends. We recommend that the more squeamish among you spend this week instead reading US magazine, or watching C-Span or whatever else your weak-kneed sensibilities require. Stay tuned ...

Caption: Ask Sadie. Dear Sadie, Were you ever young? If so, what was it like for you? -Grandma Pat. *(Actual reader letter) Ask Sadie at rudy@rudypark.com. Awful and typical. I experienced wild hormone swings, had crazy flings with key members of the Roosevelt administration, indirectly caused two world wars and, in a drunken rage, destroyed evidence of alien landings in Roswell. The usual stuff. Getting old is worse. I don't want to hear about it. (This cartoon was originally published on 2014-07-10)

Caption: Boss, I got your memo about the café's new patrons-only bathroom policy. Good. One question: Why's it say this only applies to scared people? You're aware of the recent Starbucks news? Their mistake was they engaged in negative discrimination. My studies show positive discrimination actually boosts customer retention. Now get back out there, and when you hand a patron the potty key, don't for to say this is only for the brave! I've been saying that. But it just makes them afraid to go in there.

Caption: You wanted to see me again, boss? Yes. I realized you never gave me my Christmas bonus. What're you talking about? You're the boss. You give me a bonus, I don't give you a bonus. Exactly. The key word in employer-employee relationship is relationship. One-sided relationships never work, Rudy. I've calculated the amount you would have paid me if you hadn't been taking me for granted for 16 years. Very bad man.

Caption: Randy, remember when the president went to the U.N. and talked about how unstable North Korea was? Yeah, that was right before he threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea. I see what you're getting at, little buddy. You think that was ironic. Yes. But what about Randy's axiom #67.1 ... "Unapologetic irony is the key to seduction. It breaks all rules of common sense and respect, and breaking rules is sexy." I didn't mean "sexy" in the hubba-hubba sense. Oh, good, because I was about to say, I didn't feel any hubbas at all.

Caption: So, what should we have for dinner tonight, Darlene? What? How about tofu burgers? You know how we love those. We? I could barbecue, we could invite the Johnsons and the Changs, and then maybe we could all cool off in the pool, throw some darts … Are you ok? Why are you talking like we're a couple? We've never even gone on a date and we never, ever will. You're right, maybe we shouldn't invite the Johnsons and the Changs. They're not getting along. Your "talk like you're already together" advice is bogus. Giving you advice is like giving a monkey my car keys.

Caption: I need a balloon, but they're locked in a cabinet. That's to keep people from making homemade narcotics. I'm not following. Isn't it obvious? When people see balloons, what's the first thing they think of? Kids? Exactly. And that leads to the desire to have kids. Now, when people want to have kids, the first thing they do is try to attract the opposite sex. Which is why our perfume and cologne are also locked in the cabinet, along with the razors and the makeup. Now ... when dates go well, they lead to hanky panky, which leads to babies. Which is why diapers are also locked in the cabinet. Now, babies grow into kids. Kids get sick a lot, which leads to people buying cough syrup. Cough syrup has been used to make illegal drugs. Which is why cough syrup is also locked in the cabinet ... We lock all the ingredients of illegal narcotics in the cabinet. Just get the key and open the cabinet please. Sorry, we keep the key locked in the cabinet. CVX.

She'll leave me!! Oh my GOD!!! Please don't tell. Have mercy … I have children. Think of how ashamed they'd be if they knew their father hogged the restroom key.
