Caption: What do you think monkey would say if he could talk? That's easy. He's discuss how ratty this couch is. It has millions of infectious microbes that will give us a cold, flu or worse. He'd talk about November - An historic election at a precarious time in our nation's history. Who knows. Indeed. Want to get dinner? Perhaps a vegan feast? Something organic without carcinogens. At least we can agree on that. Don't breathe on me.

Caption: I've been reading a lot of ancient history lately. That's good, little buddy. The distant past is pretty fascinating. You're preaching to the choir. Before every date, I like to revisit the pax romana. The point in time when all the squabbling ceased and all of Europe got down to some good lovin'. What's your favorite time in ancient history? March 28th, 2015. that's when I retweeted a great tweet I'd written back on December 5th, 2014.

Caption: The Ask Sadie Show. Actual answers to actual reader questions. Dear Sadie, When you were a teenager, did your parents tell you you were too young to date? How did you deal with that? - Frustrated with Dad. Never! In my day, there were no "teen-agers." You were either big enough to run the machinery, or small enough to be used as a pipe-cleaner in the machinery.

Caption: You've got to stop getting all your history from Youtube and Netflix. Why? Because those are videos. People who make videos are making entertainment. It it's entertaining that means someone's constructed story. If it's a story, that means they left out or twisted whatever doesn't logically fit their narrative as told from one point of view. Accurate history would be completely illogical. Oliver Stone would disagree.

Caption: I'm watching "Untold History of the United States" on Netflix. Is it true it was actually the Soviet Union that won World War II? … and is it true Japan was trying to surrender because the USSR had just entered the war against them, but we nuked them anyway just to show Russia who was boss? And is it true Truman single-handedly started the cold war and the arms race by reneging on deals Roosevelt and Churchill had struck with Stalin and then threatening to nuke the USSR? History's interesting now that I can stream it. I don't know what that means, but it sounds inappropriate.

Caption: Sadie, sometimes I get really depressed when I think about how divided we are as a country. You've been here a long time. Maybe you can help me. Are we really more divided now than at any time since the Civil War? I figured you'd be the best person to ask, seeing as how you were there. And is it true Abraham Lincoln had a high-pitched voice? You're going to have a high-pitched voice once I'm through with you.

Caption: Rudy, I'd like you to broaden your skill-set. What for, boss? You have a real flair for making coffee. House of Java Cybercafe. But the era of the specialist is over. These days, workers must be able to perform the duties of several people. A lot of political cartoonists are now expected to also draw bar graphs and write articles covering the local car wash openings. I fired my long-time dentist so I could hire one who'd agree to also paint my bathroom. Workers specializing in just one thing is a historical aberration, anyway. For most of human history, people had to catch their own food, make their own clothes, dig their own graves ... and give offerings to their overlords. How good are you at painting bathrooms and performing root canals? How hard can that be? I'll go see if there's a root canal on Youtube.

Caption: Sadie, have you ever known any real-life heroes? Depends. Do you mean "known" in the biblical sense? Because if so, I have quite a few stories to tell. But they're not for those with delicate sensibilities. I retract the question. Would you like to know what both George S. Patton and Mahatma Gandhi had in common? No, I really wouldn't.

Caption: I've edited your Wikipedia entry again, Sadie. You're about to be inundated with phone calls from the press. Whatever, geek-boy. Tap tap tap tap tap. You're now the world's foremost authority on turkey leprosy, the disease that's threatening to ruin the holidays. No one'll believe that. Oh yeah? I wrote a Wikipedia page for turkey leprosy, too, along with examples of all the historical figures it's killed, such as the Archduke of Crushistan. There is no "Crushistan." I've written a Wikipedia entry for Crushistan. You should teach a class on wasting time. Ring ring ring ring.

Caption: Says here the Navy's going to be patrolling the South China Sea. It could spark a history-changing war. Google tells me the last time a Naval conflict changed history, it was the Battle of Midway. You were alive at that time. How awesome was it to already be ancient when Midway happened? I never expected a question like that from a prepubescent stooge like you. Was it as awesome as when you saw Cleopatra lose at the Battle of Actium? I see you're bringing Google's a-game today.

Caption: It was the 1980s. I'd hitched a ride to the desert sands of Iraq in search of adventure. There, in the ancient ruins of Nimrud, I saved a beautiful archaeologist from the reanimated mummy of an ancient Assyrian warrior. That, little buddy, led to Randy "The Rock" Taylor's very first roll in the hay. That's what made Nimrud famous? That, and some other stuff, I guess.

Caption: You ever wonder what the world would be like if Lincoln had lived? Stop! I'm tired of everyone trying to blame my great-grandmother for what happened! I mean, sure, she could've let J.W. Booth down easy, instead of mocking and taunting him until the shame made him snap. But blaming her for what happened hours later is just unfair! The history books are so incomplete. She always got blamed for everything. Like the time she set off a firecracker at Fort Sumter. How was she to know?

Caption: What if history had turned out differently? I've often wondered the same thing. What if the nuclear tests had happened at a different Marshall Island, other than Bikini Atoll? The bikini could've very well been called "the Rongerik." or "the Enewetak." or "the Rongelap." The possible perturbations boggle the mind. I meant something more important. ... Like how if Nintendo had adopted compact discs, the Playstation never would've happened.

Caption: YOU SHOVED HAGGIS IN MY EAR! WHO DOES THAT?! I couldn’t make it to Scotland. Scotland is trying to gain its independence from England after hundreds of years of being part of "Great Britain." But I can't make it over there. For the first time in history, a Cohen will not be personally present to heckle a major development. IT BURNS!!! Now take a selfsie and twit it with the hashtag "NOT-SO-GREAT-BRITAIN."

Caption: I hear you own a small plane. You will fly me to Scotland. Scotland? They're trying to break away from the United Kingdom. It's history in the making. Naturally, I must be there to heckle it. Sorry, Sadie, I have a hot date. BUT A COHEN HAS BEEN HECKLING HISTORY EVER SINCE SADIE THE ELDER TOLD CAESAR THOSE KNIVES MADE HIM LOOK FAT! Sorry. A date's a date.

Caption: With all this yammering about Russia, nobody's really asking the right question. Why should we do anything about it if even the Ukrainians aren't willing to fight to hold on to their country. Sure, it'd be certain death. But would anyone "remember the Alamo" of Davy Crockett and my grandmother hadn't fought till their dying breaths for it? The history books are woefully incomplete. Isn't the Alamo where John Wayne died?
