Caption: Ballcap Semiotics. The Classic (a.k.a. Dad hat). Soft and rounded. Normative. Worn by approximately 100 million Americans. The Boxy Flatbill (a.k.a. The Snapback). Indicator of subcultural funkiness. Rakishly rejects curves of standard ballcap. The Trucker Hat. Camaro. Extra-thick foam. Dominant in the '70s and '80s. Ironically revived in the '00s. Trucker Hat lite goes mainstream, now worn by Yoga Moms. The MAGA Hat. Ill-fitting bulbous bastard spawn of dad and trucker hats. Make America Great Again. Like a cone of shame without the shame.

Caption: Slowpoke. A Volatile Situation. Doing internet research on things to buy for a new apartment, I began to wonder: is everything toxic? "Many carpets release volatile organic compounds, adding to indoor air pollution. Hmm … It's easy to become completely paranoid. Omigod. I should've used soybean paint! And this guy says my memory foam mattress is killing me! Is my pillow off-gassing? Clacka-clacka! Apparently if I were serious, I'd buy an all-natural mattress handcrafted by local hipsters.* Wads of organic cotton. Inert Bedding Co. *Actually exists! Or I could take a more Michael Jacksonesque approach to life ... Hey, look! It's Bubble Girl! I hope this plastic is BPA-Free!

Caption: Slowpoke. NOISE WAR. It started with the cell phone dipwads. YEA, I'M HAVING MY INVERTED NIPPLE EXTRUDED TODAY! Noise-cancelling headphones ensued. Blah blah blah blah. HA! But in this age of advanced ringtones, 4-wheelers, and fat tailpipes, it's only a matter of time before we see ... Mini personal leaf blowers to clear crumbs off of public seats! A Plexiglas bubble must be added to the anti-noise ensemble. Parents can no linger hear their wee ones above the din, so they use BABY AMPLIFIERS. I think she's crying WAAA. People resort to full-body suits made of sound-dampening eggshell foam, on top of everything else. Ah, peace and quiet! I can't move.
