Caption: Adding people with a background in music has made the team better. The new hitting coach is just like clarinet player Benny Goodman. Benny Goodman was "The King of Swing"! Nobody is better with that instrument than this guy. That's why he's playing first bass! The rock star with bat cleanup for the team. He'll have some big hits this year! And the opera singer will be the new ace on the mound. Thanks to the perfect pitch!

Caption: What would happen if Shakespeare lived centuries later and tried being a baseball umpire? Out, damned spot! Out, I say! Can you explain the infield fly rule. It is madness yet there is method in it! What's in a name? A rose by any other name would hit as sweet! Fair is foul, and foul is fair. You should stick to writing.

Caption: Robot League Baseball. The player upgrades are great this year! New batteries and antennas will increase our home runs and decrease strike outs. They'll hit with more power, yet still make consistent contact! A software patch will cut down on errors. And the catcher's signs are encrypted now so they won't get stolen. Even with all that stuff, the most important upgrade is organic, grown in a biology lab! Yeah, every member of the pitching staff has a live arm!

Caption: The baseball team played badly again today! In center, the nucleus made lots of errors. The tryptophan was picked off base because he was napping, and the adrenaline swung wildly at bad pitches - it's not in his nature to walk. Worst of all, the flesh-eating-bacteria was a bad teammate. He just played for himself! The manager tried to bench him, but he was resistant! Did anybody play well? Yeah, the vaccine hit a long home run - it was a very impressive shot!

Caption: Press Box. Here in the Zoo Baseball Classic, the managers are thinking several moves ahead! Raccoons are good thieves ... He'll be told to steal third base. With a runner on third, the boa constrictor will be put in to pinch-hit. They'll try the old squeeze play! But the other manager might outfox them by bringing the camel in to pitch. He's practically unhittable! He throws a spitball!

Caption: F&E's Baseball Bar & Grill. What's the matter with those two? They got two kinds of draft beer for a taste-test competition. And they ordered a sandwich but a worm came out of the sandwich and wiggled around the counter. They just left their beer and walked out! That happens sometimes in baseball. A pitchers' duel is broken up by a little squibbler in front of the plate!

Caption: Game Today. Noah's yelling at his team --- They aren't getting ready for the game. The elephants keep going after the peanut vendor. The frogs ate earlier and not won't catch flies. And there's no hitting practice because the bats left when the stadium lights came on. Noah shouldn't worry about all that. Why not? It looks like it might be a very long rain delay!

Caption: Bottom of the ninth, we're up by one, the bases are loaded and the biggest star in baseball is up How do you want to pitch to this guy? Okay, I see you hitting a home run and winning the game. We'll get Brad Pitt to play you and Tom Hanks as the manager. But wait! There's a twist. I hate playing in L.A.!

Caption: Locker Room. Home Team. The rookie, Ernie, has gotten off to a rough start. Yesterday, in his first game he stuck in the ball in his pocket when told to "take the first pitch," grabbed an opposing player by the pants when told to "hold the runner" and strolled around the stadium because the manager said "a walk is as good as a hit." Today he pitched and despite giving up eight runs without getting anybody out I think he'll be taking credit for a "shutout." Stay out! No media allowed.

Caption: Hurry up, Ernie --- You're late for the Sunday comics again! I didn't think I'd get here at all! First I went to the Travel section and got stuck in security I was hit by a foul ball in the Sports page And was caught in the middle of an argument on the Opinion page ... Then just before getting here, I was buried in an avalanche of coupons! I'm lucky to arrive in one piece! Uh, Ernie --- I'm afraid that's not entirely true. Cut along dotted line.

Caption: Ernie, I just checked out the rough cut of your baseball instructional video, and it looks like there might be some problems. There's a whole segment of you just swatting gnats! I can say that's a demonstration of how to catch flies. You fell three times while trying to run around the bases. I'll just call that "sliding techniques". In the hitting section, you didn't make contact once. That's not a problem --- I'll change that segment to "effective pitching". And what about fielding grounders? Every time you bent over for a ball, it went between your legs! I'm way ahead of you, Frank ... That's going to be the segment on pregame stretching!
