Background about Jeff Parker
Jeff Parker, who creates Dustin with Steve Kelley, is a busy cartoonist. He began his career drawing editorial cartoons for "Florida Environments" newsmagazine in 1989 followed by "Orlando Business Journal" before joining his hometown newspaper, Florida Today, in 1992. He continues to draw there and his editorial cartoons are distributed to hundreds of national and international newspapers by Cagle Cartoons Syndicate.
In addition to Dustin and editorial cartooning, Jeff helps Mike Peters produce his comic strip, Mother Goose & Grimm.
Jeff is a member of both the National Cartoonists Society and the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. His cartoon recognition includes awards from Gannett News Service, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors, the Florida Press Club and the Florida Press Association. In 2005, Jeff was honored to take home the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Division Award for Editorial Cartooning after four prior nominations. He has been published in Pelican Books’ Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year since 1992.
His cartoons have also been regularly featured nationally and internationally in magazines, books and broadcast media, including CNN, Fox News, USA Today, Newsweek, Time, The Washington Post, Le Monde, Courrier International and The New York Times.
In 1999, Jeff traveled to Cuba on assignment with a contingent of 18 American cartoonists to get an inside look at one of the last bastions of communism. His journal and sketch diary of the trip were later reproduced in three editions of Florida Today.
Jeff works from his home studio. His wife, Pat, considers him her only child.
