Caption: How the System Works. 1) It all starts with the checks written by corporations and by right-wing churches. 2) Poured into the "Media-Industrial-Lobby-Complex" (MILC), this cash is converted into political power. One aspect of the MILC, the ABRAMOFFINATOR (tm) shakes down Indian tribes and puts the money to better use - like golfing in Scotland and redistricting Texas! 3) This tightens the GOP's grip on power. they can then squeeze even more tax breaks and contracts out of government. 4) Pumped back up to the top of the loop, all this money in turn fattens their balance sheets ... so they can write more checks!

Caption: Meanwhile in an alternative universe where the response to the New Orleans flood was competent … Tuesday, August 30, 2005. Rather than playing golf today, the president sent the National Guard to new Orleans to join rescue efforts which -- instead of being haphazard -- were the result of years of careful planning by local officials. Tuesday evening ... Congress has granted the president emergency powers. The president has ordered police departments across the nation to contribute helicopters and pilots for food drops and to rescue citizens from rooftops. Thousands of national guardsmen have begun arriving in New Orleans. Wednesday, August 31, 2005. The sky is filled with helicopters. The president has ordered Greyhound to send all area buses to New Orleans and calls on truck owners in the region to volunteer evacuate the desperate citizens. Instead of condemning people for taking what they need to survive, the White House has ordered National Guard troops to crack down only on those looting non-essentials. Instead of blaming the victims. the head of FEMA has noted that the poor didn't have the resources to evacuate the city. Thursday September 1, 2005. New Orleans has been devastated, but quick action by authorities gave people enough hope that few resorted to violence. It could have been much worse. And instead of spending thousands of dollars on shoes in New York, Condoleezza Rice is doing her job.

Caption: Hey, Frank, look at this! Money multiplies as it's spent again and again moving from person to person. Economics: The Multiplier Effect. When money is injected into a local economy, income and consumption rise by an amount greater than that initially injected because the money circulates multiple times. With each transfer of money there are "leakages", savings and taxes, for example. The higher the level of leakages, the lower the value of the multiplier will be. Big deal! I spend my paycheck several times over all by myself! ... And that's before I even get it!
